Having a long-standing commitment to place sustainability at the heart of our business strategy, we, as VakıfBank, are constantly striving to improve our ESG performance. To us, being a sustainable bank is beyond just a label, but a set of values we create for our entire stakeholder ecosystem.
In this new era where credible sustainability indicators are an integral part of investment decisions, disclosure and transparency underpin engagement with the investment community. In this context, analysis by ESG rating agencies and inclusion in sustainability indices provide a strategic tool to communicate and improve our ESG performance on a continuous basis.
We were first included in the BIST Sustainability Index in 2014 and since then we have been a constituent of several leading sustainability indices. As we take the necessary steps for a more sustainable future, we are committing to continue to be included in these indices and to improve our ESG ratings reflecting how sustainability is embedded in our corporate strategy.

Sustainalytics
In 2023, we improved our ESG risk rating score to 18.4 (low risk) from 19.1 (low risk) and ranked in the 9th percentile (191 out of 1009) among banks industry.

Summary Risk Rating Report
CDP
Since 2015, we have been reporting our climate change strategy, risks and performance to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). In 2023, VakıfBank’s CDP Climate Change performance score improved to “A” leadership level and CDP Water Security performance score improved to “A-“ also. VakıfBank maintained one of the Turkish participant banks with the highest grade in 2023.

SUSTAINABILITY INDICES
BIST Sustainability Index
Since its launch in 2014, we have been a constituent of the BIST Sustainability Index.
BIST includes Türkiye’s most sustainable companies based on financial, environmental, social and corporate management performance as selected by the Istanbul Stock Exchange.
FTSE4Good Emerging Markets Index
Since 2017, we have been listed on the FTSE4Good Emerging Markets Index which selects companies that meet globally recognized corporate responsibility standards. FTSE4Good is particularly followed by responsible investors.
Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index
In 2020, VakıfBank, having strong practices and initiatives empowering women both socially and economically, was included in the 2020 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI). Thus, on the first year of our reporting, we became one of the two Turkish banks being selected in this index among 325 companies worldwide. The Bloomberg GEI conducts the most comprehensive research worldwide to measure the performance of companies that commits to gender equality. As VakıfBank, we maintain our continuity in the index in 2022 by being included in the index three years in a row.
Dow Jones Sustainability Index
In 2019, to further strengthen our sustainable banking identity on global platforms, we have voluntarily participated in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index survey together with 175 companies who reported out of 248 companies invited. In 2021, VakıfBank answered the survey of S&P Global CSA survey and we will continue to raise our ESG score every year.
